The Rutgers Office for Intercultural Initiatives
is the locus for cross-cultural diversity, on the New Brunswick
campus uniting the three cultural centers – the Paul
Robeson Cultural Center, the Asian
American Cultural Center, and the
Center for Latino Arts & Culture. The mission of the
office is to promote a climate of respect for diversity by
fostering academic and public service multidisciplinary collaborations
that advance intercultural and inter-group relations across
ethnic, racial, class, trans-gender boundaries, and across
disciplines. Through special initiatives the office seeks
to:
• Develop strategies jointly to strengthen
cross-cultural inter-group relations among students, faculty
and academic administrators
• Disseminate the latest scholarship and
theories related to intercultural interaction in partnership
with the cultural centers and university wide academic units
• Advance collaborative opportunities
across disciplines with diverse communities working together
to develop long-term systemic changes that will increase social
pluralism in Rutgers.
• Build broad connections between
the university and the state’s mainstream organizations,
corporations and foundations involved in promoting globalization
and fostering cross-cultural knowledge.
